Currently 6/10 Brits will consider voting for independent MPs in next election!

In a recent poll carried out by Omnisis on behalf of the IndependenT Platform www.independent-platform.co.uk voters were asked “Would you ever consider voting for an independent candidate in the upcoming general election?

A staggering 57% responded YES…

Surprisingly, even with labour so far ahead in the polls, 48% of people responded that they expected to be dissatisfied with any of the mainstream political parties after the coming election. This is only 11% better than when the same question was asked about people’s dissatisfaction with the mainstream parties after the last election.

People responding positively to voting for independents were fairly evenly split between the genders but the strongest age group were the 25 – 34.

Of those saying they were currently undecided on their voting intention, 70% responded that they would consider voting independent.

One of the worries raised by many of the political commentators is the concern of the potential low voter turnout, often referred to as the “sofa voter”. Many of this section of the electorate have become totally disillusioned in politics and don’t want to support any of the mainstream parties. The poll indicated that almost 50% of those who had indicated they would not be voting would consider voting for an independent candidate.

We currently have MPs classified as “independent” but they cannot be truly described as independent as they have either broken ties, voluntarily or involuntarily, with their mainstream party or they have got elected on a single issue cause.

The outcome of the poll clearly indicates that, for the first time in our recent political history, truly independent parliamentary candidates can get elected. The problem in the past has been that independents struggle to get themselves heard and known by their voters prior to an election. The IndependenT Platform has been launched to encourage and support people who would like to stand as independent MPs.

The IndependenT Platform utilises readily accessible technology to facilitate the engagement of independent MP candidates with their electorate. For every electoral constituency a dedicated election page is hosted by the IndependenT Platform. This page serves as a central hub where voters can access pertinent information. This includes a brief video introducing the local independent candidates, accompanied by concise biographical details. Scheduled online live sessions titled “Meet your independent candidate” will be prominently displayed on the election page. These sessions offer voters the opportunity to virtually interact and respond to questions with the candidates in real time.

The IndependenT Platform operates without any political agenda and will never exert pressure on elected independent MPs. Its sole focus is on fostering a positive evolution in UK politics through the empowerment of independent voices.
