Azhar Chohan (Slough)

Azhar Chohan is a respected and highly experienced lawyer and community advocate based in Slough. With a deep commitment to civic engagement and social justice, he brings a wealth of experience and passion to his candidacy as an independent representative in the upcoming UK general election.

With over 23 years of experience as a senior constituency caseworker, he truly understands various issues impacting people in Slough from housing to welfare benefits, policing and health.

His experience and knowledge have also been utilised to train lawyers of all levels in addition to carrying out legal research for MPs, past and present.

Alongside his legal career, he has championed justice and equality for various local and global issues, serving as an Executive member of National Federation of Law Centers and also as the founder and trustee of Slough Immigration Aid Unit (SIAU).

Azhar has always been a champion of women’s rights and is regularly involved in supporting the Women’s Refuge in Slough, especially supporting those affected by domestic violence. Additionally, he has always been a keen advocate for interfaith dialogue and community harmony.

Azhar lives locally with his family who have called Slough their home for over the last 60 years.

  • Stopping the genocide in Gaza

In November last year, Slough’s current MP Tan Desi was directed by Labour leadership to abstain in a vote calling for an immediate ceasefire. He complied with that order, against the will of many of his constituents. At least 34,000 people have been killed since Oct 7th including more than 14,500 children.

  • Delivering more affordable housing

The lack of affordable housing is one of the most pressing economic challenges facing Slough’s residents. The UK has amongst the highest proportion of renters who spend over 40% of their income on housing. These costs prevent spending on other goods & services, which has a knock-on effect on the wider local economy.

  • Eradicating knife crime

Slough has recently seen a rise in knife crime, theft and violent, antisocial behaviour. We must tackle the root causes of knife crime through community engagement and youth outreach programs to create a safer environment for all residents because enough lives have been lost to such crimes. Ensuring public safety is non- negotiable.

  • Reviving the high street

The plans to redevelop the high street are at a standstill with little transparency for businesses and residents on progress. The High Street has been in demise for decades. We’re committed to supporting local businesses and recognise the need to incentivise entrepreneurship, improve access to funding, and breathe new life into our town centre to boost opportunities for Slough.

  • Improving infrastructure and public services

The community infrastructure in Slough is not fit for purpose. Decades of mismanagement by the council and austerity have led to critical cuts in public services. Frustrations have been voiced on poor road maintenance and management, the lack of youth services and limited capacity of other critical public services.

“As a member of Slough’s community, I have witnessed firsthand the frustrations and concerns of my fellow residents. It’s time for a change, a voice that truly speaks for Slough, and gives the electorate a credible alternative to the status quo at the ballot box.”

“I am committed to working tirelessly to address the challenges facing Slough and to holding our local and national leaders accountable for their actions both abroad and at home. This is our home and together, we can build a brighter future for Slough, one that reflects the values and aspirations of all its residents.”

Chohan’s candidacy represents a departure from traditional party politics, with a focus on restoring trust and faith in elected leaders by championing transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. His campaign aims to bridge divides within the community and amplify the diverse voices of Slough, ensuring that all residents are heard and represented.

As the election season begins to unfold, Azhar Chohan’s independent candidacy promises to inject a new energy and perspective into the political landscape of Slough.

Testimonials

David Heather is a man who gets things done. As a successful international businessman and cultural ambassador, his work has taken him to Europe, America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Again and again, I’ve seen him do things that others said were impossible. He always puts the community and people first. Not party politics. Be clever- Vote Heather!"

Keith B

"David is a personable and attentive man who has a genuine interest in people and their general well being. He has a passionate interest in the countryside and rural communities. Residing in a rural community himself, he has great concern about the limited level of central governments engagement with our rural communities and the consequent impact to the quality and way of life"

Stuart D

"David has passion and drive for a fair and equitable outcome in both his former business and current personal life. He has lived in many countries and this is reflected in his wise advice and he is unafraid to tell it as it is. He commands respect and has an excellent sense of humour."
